They have been buying and selling antiques for over 40 years. Sherman’s love and interest in antiques started over 50 years ago. Sherman said: “My father was a carpenter and as a young boy I would occasionally accompany Dad when he would repair the old homes in historic Mobile, Al. Even as a lad, I loved the workmanship of the old homes and the furnishings. The owners of the homes were always glad to tell the history of each piece and type of wood used in the construction. In high school, my dad and I made two mahogany desks for my younger brother and me. Being in the Antique and auction business for many years, we have owned many valued antiques but that desk is still my prized possession. “ Sherman accepted a job with the Social Security Adm. after graduating from the University Of South Alabama with a degree in Marketing and Management and retired 33 years later as District Manager of the Columbus, Ms. Office. Ruth spent 15 years as a Asst. Teacher. Their work experience and having three children prepared them for dealing with almost any situation. Ruth and Sherman married in 1967 and their first antique purchase was a 1860s rocker that was used to rock the kids to sleep. Their love of antiques peaked when they moved to Columbus, Ms. in 1987. They purchased an older home and started fill it with good antiques purchased at auctions. It was not long before they started working for the auctioneer- Sherman was a ring man and Ruth was working in the office and clerking. Sherman attended the Nashville school of Auctioneering in 1993 and is a licensed and bonded auctioneer in Al. and Ms. Sherman retired as District Manager of the Social Security Office on Feb 29, 2000 and they purchased the 5400 square foot auction building and 10 acres the next day. In 2008, we moved into a house we built next to the auction building so drop in to see us sometime.
